The Hoover Dam is a dam located between the states of Nevada and Arizona, in the United States, on the Colorado River. The dam, located 30 miles from Las Vegas, was named after Herbert Hoover, the 31st President of the United States, who was instrumental in the dam`s construction process. Construction began on April 20, 1931 and completed March 1, 1936. The dam was designated in 1981 a National Register of Historic Places structure as well as, in 1985, a National Historic Landmark.
