Description
Batova River or Batovska River is a river that flows in northeastern Bulgaria. The river passes through Varna District - Aksakovo Municipality and Dobrich District - Dobrich and Balchik municipalities. It flows into the Black Sea. The estuary is part of the Baltata Reserve. The river has a winter-spring flood, which begins in November, reaches its maximum in February and ends in May. The remaining 5 months are low water with the lowest value in July and August. The Batova River is one of the most important places in the country for the protection of the nesting medium-sized woodpecker Dendrocopos medius and the half-white flycatcher Ficedula semitorquata. The mouth of the river is defined as a place with a narrow front of migration of world importance.
