Description
Pictured is a larger than life marble statue of Saint Vincent of Saragossa by famous Portugese sculptor Raul Maria Xavier in Lisbon, Portugal. He is holding a boat with two ravens, the symbols of Lisbon. It is located at the Viewpoint of the Sungates, one of Lisbon`s best viewpoints. Saint Vincent is the patron saint of Lisbon and Valencia. He is also Spain`s most renowned martyr under the emperor Diocletian in 304, suffering brutal scourging, the rack, heated grating, lacerations with iron hooks, and being seared with hot metal plates. He refused to renounce his faith to the end, and gained the heavenly crown of martyrdom. The statue was dedicated in its current place in 1970.
