Description
Pictured is the base of the Column of Pedro IV in Rossio Square in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. The monument was erected in 1870. The bronze statue stands atop a tall Corinthian order column. He is wearing a general`s uniform and royal cloak, his head crowned in laurels, and his right hand holding the Constitutional Charter of 1826. At the base of the column are four female allegorical figures of Justice, Wisdom, Strength, and Moderation.
