San Francisco New Main Library, 6. #233412871
Description
Libraries have been built and used going back to antiquity. San Francisco`s first library was built in 1879, then moved to a part of City Hall. Since most of City Hall was destroyed by the earthquake and fire of 1906, which included the library, it was moved again to a temporary location. As the next big earthquake of 1989 destroyed the next new building, the library had to be moved yet again. This new library was opened in 1996, with additional renovation being done in 2008.The seven floors can now seat over 2,000 people, five times the old building. There are also commissioned works of art through out the building. As seen October 2021.
