Sayong or Labu Sayong also known as a famous and hereditary craft. According to the story of the locals in Kuala Kangsar Perak, it is believed that Labu Sayong was originally brought to Sayong (small village in Kuala Kangsar) by Tuk Kaluk who came from Minangkabau during the reign of Sultan Iskandar. Tuk Kaluk also was know as the one of those who had good relations with the palace at that time. Because of that, Tuk Kaluk was awarded a land by the sultan in Kampung Kepala Bendang in appreciation of his ability in making handicrafts such as pottery which helped the locals community at that time. Since then, Tuk Kaluk has continued to teach the locals how to make Labu Sayong. Over time, the villagers are good at making Sayong on their own to this day. The use of Sayong or pottery in daily life is indeed widespread.
