Iconic Israeli singer and entertainer Yardena Arazi performs at the Israel Prize ceremony, on Israel Independence Day which in 1988, fell on April 21st. This marked the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Jewish state. Arazi was hailed as Israel`s number one singer of the 1980s, and ranks among the nation`s all-time favorite pop singers. She performed internationally and represented her country in the Eurovision Song Contest. Although she performed very well, it seemed that no one could beat an unheralded chanteuse from Quebec, Canada, representing Switzerland. That irresistible force was Celine Dion.
