Description
Pictured is a relief with detail of the Basilica entrance at the Santa Maria de Montserrat Benedictine Abbey near Barcelona, Spain. The imposing relatively modern façade was erected shortly after the end of the civil war under the direction of the Barcelona architect Francesc Folguera. It is decorated with a multitude of reliefs and sculptural groups, among which we find the Proclamation of the Dogma of the Assumption of Mary by Pope Pius XII, Saint Benedict and Saint George, all of them in the upper arches; The Latin inscription Urbs Jerusalem Beata Dicta Pacis Visio , which means "Happy city of Jerusalem, called vision of peace" can also be clearly read above these arcades.
