Description
Wat Khanikaphon is a small Buddhist temple near Chinatown, Bangkok, founded during the reign of King Rama III by a brothel owner Khun Yai Faeng in 1833. A devout Buddhist, she raised funds from the girls in her house to build the temple. Originally known as `Wat Mai Yai Faeng`, it was granted its current unique name by King Rama IV, literally `the Temple which was built from the profits of the prostitute`.
