Located near the town center of Phetchaburi in Thailand, Wat Phlapphla Chai dates from the late Ayutthaya period. The viharn assembly hall was constructed with the characteristic curved, boat-shaped lines and also features interesting stucco work with beautifully carved wooden panels. It now houses the Museum of Shadow Puppet, featuring 40 leather shadow puppets from the private collection of Luang Por Rit, the temple`s former abbot during the reign of King Rama V. Phetchaburi has a long and rich history, which is reflected in the town`s art and architecture. Originally, a Mon city, it fell to the Khmer Empire in the 12th century and was later part of the Thai Sukhothai and Ayutthaya kingdoms.
