The reclining Buddha at Wat Phra Phuttha Saiyat, Phetchaburi, one of the largest statues of its kind in Thailand #237699135
Description
Wat Phra Phuttha Saiyat stands at the southeastern foot of Khao Wang hill in Phetchaburi. Also known locally as Wat Phra Non, the Temple of the Sleeping Buddha, this is an ancient temple believed to date back to the Ayutthaya period, left abandoned for several decades and was restored on the orders of King Rama IV. The main feature is a 43-metre long statue of a 400-year old reclining Buddha in stucco and brick work, lacquered and covered with gold foil- one of the largest reclining Buddhas in Thailand, with the temple having been built around the statue to protect it from the elements.
