Yungang Grottoes is located at the south foot of Wuzhou Mountain and the north bank of Wuzhou River, about 16 kilometers west of Datong City, Shanxi Province, China.ÃÂ There are 45 main grottoes, 252 niches of different sizes, and more than 51,000 stone statues, making it one of the largest ancient grottoes in China.ÃÂ It was inscribed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO on December 14, 2001.
