Roman necropolis #23828613
Description
The Roman Necropolis of Carmona (Spain) dates from the 1st century. The corpses were cremated in ovens dug into the rock. Sometimes these ovens were also used for burial, depositing the ashes in the grave, which was covered with bricks. Once covered with earth, a plaque was placed to indicate the location and name of the deceased.
