The monumental Colosseum, one of the earliest stages in history, in Rome, Lazio, Italy #238304900
Description
The initial Latin name of the Colosseum was amphitheatrum Flavium in French ââ¬Åamphitheater Flavienââ¬Â. The monument was built by emperors of the Flavian dynasty to provide citizens with entertainment, hence its original name. This name is still frequently used in specialized works, but it is little known to the general public. In Antiquity, the Romans sometimes referred to the Colosseum as Amphitheatrum Caesareum, in a poetic context.
