Description

The Eighteen Terraces traditional style area(Shiba Ti), located at No. 1 Zhongxing Road, Yuzhong District, Chongqing, is one of the 28 traditional style areas in Chongqing. Adjacent to Jiefang West Road in the south and Zhongxing Road in the north, it is located on the banks of the Yangtze River. Construction started in May 2017 and will be completed and opened on September 30, 2021.As a link between the upper and lower cities of old Chongqing, the Eighteen Ladders is an important inheritance and continuation of the `mother city` culture and carries the memory of the people of the mountain city.During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Chongqing was the gateway to Sichuan, with convenient land and water amphibious transportation, and many merchants who came and went also stopped and transited here. At the end of 1990, Nanjimen established a labor market, most of the aborigines gradually moved away, and the eighteen stairs began to look old and messy. The rebuilt Eighteen Ladders show the mountain city form and spatial characteristics of `born Chongqing`, the road structure of `horizontal and vertical lanes` and the street space of `uphill and downhill, twisting and turning`. It constitutes a traditional mountain city human settlement space, which carries the changes of urban life and the evolution of time and space patterns. It is a time and space product of regional politics, economy, culture, etc.Looking at the historical changes of Chongqing from the eighteen ladders.
