Description
Kopan Monastery is a Tibetan Buddhist temple located on a hill in the outskirts of Kathmandu, Nepal. The monastery was established by lamas Thubten Yeshe and Thubten Zopa Rinpoche, founders of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition FPMT, an international network of Buddhist dharma centers for the Gelug school. The first temple was constructed in 1971-72 and became famous for teaching Buddhism to visiting Western foreigners.
