Wizard of OZ crystal ball exhibit #238691270
Description
The crystal ball was on view in the Kroch Library, Cornell University, Ithaca, NYS. When ââ¬ÅThe Wizard of Ozââ¬Â was made in 1939, artists painstakingly hand-painted every frame of film to depict what the Wicked Witch of the West saw in the crystal ball ââ¬â one of filmââ¬â¢s earliest special effects. Around 25 inches in diameter and made of hand-blown glass. Technicians also outfitted the ball to display scenes from the movie, using a thin, inflatable screen melded to the ballââ¬â¢s shape by an air pump, as well as a light projection system.
