A huge amount of watermelon is grown in beach-oriented districts like Barguna and Patuakhali. The melons weigh between five and 12 kilograms. The price of the fruits varies from Tk20 to Tk45 per kilogram. This crop plays an important role in the local economy. A good number of people got involved with the temporary farming and trading of fruits. The workers in the photos got a lump sum amount as they work for the wholesaler. The main profit goes to the pocket of the wholesalers. Each laborer gets Tk300 to Tk500 per day for transporting those from the cargo boats.
