Ranganathaswamy Temple in Gandikota - Grand Canyon of India - India tourism - Religious trip #238996858
Description
Gandikota is a small village in the Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh. The village is majorly known for housing the spectacular gorge which is famously adjudged as the Grand Canyon of India. The stunning gorge has been created by the waters of the famous river Pennar that streams from the Erramala hills. There are several other attractions in and near the village that allure visitors, the most special being the ancient, magnificent Gandikota fort that sits majestically on top of the gorge and temples amd mosques located inside the fort. The Ranganatha Swamy Temple is one such architecturally rich ancient Hindu temple located inside the Gandikota fort. It is a complex system of pillars, hallways, and corridors. Made out of red granites, the temple is a small one but the architecture and sculptures in the premises are typical of Vijayanagara temples. The carvings on the walls and pillars are still quite impressive.
