The massive basilica, whose altar was built over the grave of St. Peter, according to legend, is considered one of the world's largest religious buildings, in addition, it is the central office of the Roman Catholic Church. Bramante, Bernini, Michelangelo, Raphael and Maderno took part in the construction and decoration of the cathedral for several hundred years, as a result of which the building became an unsurpassed masterpiece of art and architecture. By the way, a modern tourist should remember that a certain dress code is required to visit the cathedral: shorts, mini-skirts and sleeveless shirts are prohibited.
