Description
The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross was built in 1689, after almost two centuries it was completely rebuilt with donations from the merchant P.A. Vesnin. It was a single-domed, not very large church in the eclectic style, it was located near the huge Fair Square, surrounded by numerous shopping arcades; here the crowded and famous Rostov fair used to be noisy. In the 1930s, the Exaltation of the Cross Church was demolished. Only a high four-tiered bell tower survived from it, converted into a fire tower.
