Title
Western gull Larus occidentalis with leg band 11 #241357767
Description
The Western gull, Larus occidentalis, is found throughout the western portion of North America, and looks very similar to the California gull. The only difference being, the Western has pink legs and feet, whereas the California has yellow legs and feet. Since almost all birds fly, tracking and studying them can be much more difficult. The use of coded leg bands, with different size birds getting different types, greatly aids in this study. There is evidence the Ancient Romans started banding birds as early as 200 BCE. As seen at Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park in February 2022.
