Description
ââ¬Å½Located in largo di Torre Argentina 11 in Rome, Palazzo Besso is located within the Rione Pigna, in an area of the city with extraordinary historical continuityââ¬Å½. ââ¬Å½In the nineteenth century the imposing architectural complex underwent several demolition and reconstruction interventions during the works for the construction of Corso Vittorio Emanuele II. In 1884 the Banca Tiberina bought and modernized the building by raising it by two floors and giving it a unitary and organic prospectus in Umbertino style. In 1905 the Italian financier and scholar Marco Besso bought the entire building by placing in the rooms of the first floor his home and the beloved library, a nucleus of 70,000 volumes still expandingââ¬Å½
