Description
Great blue heron, Ardea herodias, are aquatic birds, so their diets consist mainly of aquatic matter, both animal and plant. But, the are known for consuming small land animals also. The chicks are fed by the parents regurgitation into the nests, which last for about 50-80 days, then they get some practice of picking up food. Both parents take equal parts in incubating the eggs and feeding and watching the chicks. As seen at Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park 7 April 2022.
