The houses of the Ismaili Muslims in Upper Shimshal are built of stone glued with yak dung. They are very small with sheepskin and yak on the floor. In the second third of the house there is a stove and behind the stove is the kitchen which consists of a few pots and utensils for processing the milk and meat of the animals. The old women of the village teach the young girls the secrets of life at such an altitude. Milking animals, preparing wool and salted yak cheese is not an easy task. Shimshal, Pakistan
