Description
Native to Sri Lanka, this is one of three recognised subspecies of the Asian elephant. Yala National Park is the most visited and second largest national park in Sri Lanka, bordering the Indian Ocean, covering 979 sq km in the southeast region of the country. The park is best known for its variety of wild animals and is important for the conservation of Sri Lankan elephants, leopards and aquatic birds.
