Rakkestad Church Stock Image

Rakkestad Church is the main church in the parish Rakkestad, Østfold. The church is a Romanesque medieval church with a rectangular nave and narrower and elongated choir, probably built ca. 1200. Rakkestad church is first mentioned in written sources in 1370. It was taken over by Rakkestad township in 1860. In 1875 the church was significant on and expanded in the direction of city engineer GB Kielland. Chancel arch was demolished, windows enlarged, and it was erected a new tower, where the porch had been. Meanwhile, the spire demolished. The church currently has 260 seats.
