Description
In 1810, during the reign of Alexander I, a terrace was built on the site of the Katalnaya Mountain by architect Luigi Rusca. Originally it was lined with limestone and was called Ruska Terrace. Also on the shore of a Large pond, a large granite pier was built in the form of a platform with steps, four round granite bollards and lattice fences.According to Rusk`s plan, the terrace was to be decorated with two marble statues, but this project was not implemented. In the middle of the XIX century, electroplated copies of antique sculptures were installed on the pedestals of the balustrade, including Venus de Medicea, a Faun with a kid and Apoxyomena. This collection is made of copper by electroplating in the workshop of Johann HamburgerThe pier was decorated with two electroplating figures: the statue of the Discobolus, which became the first sculpture made in the workshop of I. Hamburger in 1848, and the statue of the Borghese fighter. All the sculptures have been preserved and are currently in their historical places. At the end of the XIX century, according to the project of architect Silvio Danini, the terrace was reconstructed and faced with gray and pink granite. The walls of the Granite terrace are decorated with powerful Doric columns carved out of gray granite, there are stairs on the sides.
