Description
The osprey or more specifically the western osprey Pandion Haliaetus. Also called sea hawk, river hawk, and fish hawk. It is a diurnal, fish-eating bird of prey. It is a large raptor, reaching more than 24 in in length and 71 in across the wings. Since 1990 Ospreys have been settling around the edges of Cayuga Lake. Every year, from March-August, Ospreys return from South America to their nests along the lake where they raise a new brood of fledglings and fish in Cayuga Lake.
