Description
Pictured is the inside of the southeast gate visitor`s entrance to the Archaeological Site of Volubilis in Morocco. The partially excavated Berber-Roman city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, listed for being an exceptionally well preserved example of a large Roman colonial town on the fringes of the Empire. It was founded in the 3rd century BC and abandoned in the 11th century AD. The Roman period of rule was from the 1st century AD until it fell to local tribes around 285.
