Title
The first gold coin found in Ceylon #247982171
Description
The coin looks like a human figure. Its left arm is raised forward and points to something it is holding. There is a lotus flower or a hawk. Below its left hand are five dots. There is ample evidence that Sri Lankans have been making money transactions since ancient times. In examining the history of this, it goes back to the fifth century BC. There is a myth about the human figure included in this coin. Someone says that this is the image of King Rawana. Another is said to be Hanuma's. However, Mr. Paranavithana points out that this image is a statue of Lord Kuvera. Several coins are still in the Colombo National Museum.
