The Big Pineapple Agricultural Museum, in Bathurst Eastern Cape, South Africa. #248120258
Description
Standing at just under 56-feet tall the Bathurst, Eastern Cape, South Africa, ââ¬ËBig Pineappleââ¬â¢ is the biggest pineapple building in the world. The surrounding agricultural land is known for its pineapple production. During the 18th Century the first Settler farmers struggled to eke out an existence until they eventually started to grow pineapples. This crop has proven to be the lifeblood of the farming community and in the 1980s the Bathurst farming community decided to honour the humble pineapple by constructing the building. Standing three stories tall itââ¬â¢s constructed of metal and fibreglass and includes an observation platform on the highest level. The interior is a museum dedicated to teaching visitors about the history of pineapple growing in the district. There is also a small gift shop selling pineapple products. There is a similar pineapple structure in Australia, however, it is about 2-feet shorter than Bathurstââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËBig Pineappleââ¬â¢.
