The wooden spoon is a traditionally used cutlery in the kitchen. Made in a single piece of hard wood, free of tannin, usually beech, or in aromatic essences such as juniper wood, tradition has it that the scent of wood passes to foods making them better. Once the wooden spoon was also used as a table spoon, today it is almost exclusively used as a serving spoon to mix sauces or sautées, to prepare risotto, in pastry to whip and thicken or as a salad server.
