Short-toed snake eagle, Llanos de Caceres, Spain #248521876
Description
The Spanish Llanos de Caceres are a sample of the pseudo-steppe habitats formed by the degradation of the oldest dehesas in Extremadura. Listed as a special protection area for birds, it is undoubtedly one of the best places for observing steppe birds and large birds of prey. The short-toed snake eagle is a large, slightly ungainly raptor with long and very broad wings, a shortish tail, and a conspicuously big head. Pale belly and underwings contrast with the darker head in most adults.
