Description
Pictured is the Koutoubia Mosque, the largest mosque in Marrakesh, Morocco. The mosque was founded in 1147 by the Almohad caliph Abd al-Mu`min after he conquered Marrakesh from the Almoravids. A second version which stands today was entirely rebuilt around 1158. The minaret tower is 253 feet in height, and is also considered an important landmark and symbol of Marrakesh.
