Giant restored Coca Cola sign on Peachtree Street, Atlanta #249606743
Description
This circular sign ââ¬â which spans 33 feet in diameter ââ¬â has served as a cultural landmark for both the city of Atlanta and Coca-Cola since 2003. It overlooks the spot where the first Coca-Cola was served at Jacobââ¬â¢s Pharmacy in 1886, and sits just behind Woodruff Park, named for the companyââ¬â¢s longest-standing leader, Robert Woodruff. The gleaming red disc also towers over the downtown commercial district, which is home to dozens of companies and Georgia State University, and a stoneââ¬â¢s throw from Atlantaââ¬â¢s premier sports, entertainment and convention venues and tourist attractions. The original was a three-part sign, consisting of a message that was rotated monthly, a 9 foot-tall neon trademark and an illuminated display of current events. It hung in Margaret Mitchell Square from 1932-1981, where it was a fixture during New Year`s Eve celebrations and displayed weather forecasts year round.Itââ¬â¢s been in its current location â ââ¬â notably not far from the former Jacobââ¬â¢s Pharmacy, which first served Coke in 1886 â ââ¬â since 2003.
