Cartonnage mummy case inside the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities in Cairo, Egypt. #250285864
Description
Pictured is a cartonnage mummy case inside the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities in Cairo, Egypt. The case was constructed from papyrus, linen and plaster. It was a wonderful material to paint on, and mummy cases were elaborately decorated with a variety of religious elements. The museum was built in 1901 to a design by French architect Marcel Dourgnon. In 2022, the museum is due to be superseded by the newer and larger Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza.
