Description

Not only is the Pavilion a great venue, but it also boasts beautiful and historic architecture that attracts tourists year round.Constructed in 1932, the Expo Square Pavilion, formerly known as the Tulsa Fairgrounds Pavilion, is a beautiful example of PWA Art Deco architecture. PWA Moderne buildings, as they are called, were those sponsored by the Public Woks Administration in the 1930s as a part of the government’s relief projects in response to the Great Depression. Some of the elements of a PWA building are classical balanced form and vertical recessed window panels. The Pavilion is built with blond brick and adorned with terra cotta ornamentation of terra cotta. Leland I Shumway was the architect responsible for the project. As the years passed, the Pavilion hosted many events and soon became home to the International Petroleum Exposition
