The first fish and chip shop appeared in the UK around 1860, and by 1910, there were already over 25,000 shops supplying the demand. England's national dish became so popular that Charles Dickens not only mentions a "warehouse of fried fish" in Oliver Twist, but often ate it in what is still one of London's oldest pubs, The Grapes in London. Canary Wharf.Introduced to the country by Spanish and Portuguese Jewish immigrants as early as the 16th century. They prepared fried fish similar to pescado frito, which is coated in flour and then fried in oil. British fish and chips were originally served in an old newspaper wrapper, but this practice has ceased. However, it can still be consumed on the street as it should be, wrapped in plain paper.
