The coconut trees can be considered a very important tree for Sri Lankans. The Coconut is a member of the palm family. Sri Lankans refer to the coconut tree as “Kapruka” meaning that it is an asset for them. Also, Coconut leaves can be woven to create effective roofing materials. Some houses in Sri Lankan villages use these woven coconut leaves for their roves. Also, coconut leaves can be used in preparing hats and mats.The flower of the coconut tree is considered a sign of prosperity. Also, it is used to extract coconut honey to make a sweet called “Hakuru” and make an alcoholic drink called “Ra”. “Hakuru” is used in preparing sweets majorly.
