Interior View of the Roof of Scaplin's Court Museum Dating from the Mid Sixteenth Century #251173710
Description
The interior of the roof of Scaplen's Court museum dating to approximately 1550AD. The curved pieces of wood are wind braces to create triangulation and thus prevent racking, viz the tendency of a series of roof frames to collapse like a domino rally. The small horizontal pieces of wood between the rafters are called Purlin. The white plasterwork is believed to have been added in the late seventeenth century.
