Description
Ambakke Temple was built by Vikramabahu Raju III (1360-1374 AD) in the late 14th century during the Gampala Kingdom of the Old Lakdiva Kingdom. The temple is best known for its wood carvings. It is acknowledged by scholars that Ambakke has the greatest wood carvings of all time. It is believed by many that Senakanda Biso Bandara Devi, who was Vikramabahu Raju's mistress, is superseded in this temple.
