Description
San Francisco`s Market Street, which starts at Steuart Street just across from the Ferry Building, runs in an extremely straight line for three miles all the way to Castro Street. It is lines with all kinds of businesses, markets, on both sides of the street, giving it its name. But once we hit Castro, it starts twisting and turning, slowly climbing its way up and around Twin Peaks for about the next mile and half. When original layer down, in 1839, the property owners wanted it to continue it straight path. But with the horse drawn carriages of the day, the continuously turning of the road was the only way to do it.
