Like many early immigrant groups who came to America, Italians had little trust for banks. What made it worse for the Italian immigrants, they also did not trust those from outside their own district. This meant joining forces to start a bank was very difficult. Things started to change in 1904, with the Columbus Savings Bank being the first of four Italian banks finally going up in San Francisco. Through various mergers over the years, it finally became part of Bank of America. Over the years, the building was the home of the Italian Consulate, the Indonesian Consulate, various lawyers. Today it is the home of the Alioto family lawyers office. As seen 13 July 2022.
