Initially it was called Vale do Bom Retiro. The place where the lake currently stands was destroyed by a fire in 1942, and Leopoldo Rosenfeld started its reforestation and the construction of the lake dam in 1953, looking for similarity with the lakes of Europe. The pine seedlings that border it were brought from the Black Forest, in German Der Schwarzwald, located in southwest Germany, in the state of Baden-Württemberg.
