Monument to King Joseph I in Lisbon, Portugal #252657617
Description
This statue represents Portugal`s King Joseph I whose reign encompassed the horrendous Lisbon earthquake and its concomitant damage from a tidal wave and fire on November 1, 1755. He was beloved and known as Joseph the Reformer. In addition, he was a major league opera buff. The statue is situated in the Praca do Comercio or Commerce Plaza. Taking into account the buildings in the immediate vicinity it is apparent why this locale is sometimes referred to as `yellow` plaza.`
