The University of the Philippines, also known by its acronym UP, is Philippine's most prestigious University. Students of this university enjoy discounted enrollment rates which is a small fraction of what others pay in other schools. Students who study here are scholars and deserve such privilege. However, in 2007, a tuition fee hike was made causing the matriculation fees to triple which is almost what you would also pay in other universities. This was already questionable since the fees are subsidized by the government. Many students complained. Activists protested saying that if this be the case they cannot be called scholars anymore. However, recently, another 50% tuition fee hike was implemented and this was a shock for all. The tower depicted in this image is one of the landmarks of the school.
