Description
The Ludwig Monument is a monument to Grand Duke Ludwig IV of Hesse and near the Rhine [1] in Worms am Rhein , which was erected in 1895 on the initiative of the city administration and with funds from the population on Paradeplatz today`s Ludwigsplatz . It commemorates the military achievements of the Grand Duke, who died in 1892, as commander of the Grand Ducal Hessian troops, especially the Grand Ducal Hessian 25th Infantry Division in front of Gravelotte and Metz in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 .
