Description
The Medieval Village of Alquézar, in the Somontano region, is located on the banks of the River Vero and at the foot of the Sierra y los Cañones de Guara Natural Park, of which it is currently the most visited tourist destination.Alquézar brings together history and legend. The castle that gives the town its name dates back to the 9th century, when it was built by the Muslims to resist the Christian kingdoms. At present, its urban center is a Historic-Artistic Complex and the Collegiate Church of Santa MarÃÂa la Mayor, once a castle, is now a National Monument. Its medieval past is still alive in its streets, in its houses, in the Gothic entrance gate to the square and in its 17th century museum. You can also find samples of rock art in the caves of the RÃÂo Vero Cultural Park.
