Everyone who comes to San Francisco and craves chocolate knows Ghirardelli Square, the home of their famous North Point chocolate factory.What few people realize, that was not where it all started. The exact location may be lost to history, because it is know Domingo Ghirardelli, the founder, had moved around some before settling at 431 to 415 Jackson Street for his office and warehouse, with his family upstairs. And, he did not even start with chocolate, but food stuffs like spices and coffees, as well as wines. It was a lucky accident, and Domingo understanding what he had, that led to his success.When a sack of chocolate was left suspended, from above, and on a warm day, the chocolate inside warmed up enough to melt the cocoa butter from the chocolate, which drained out. The broma that was left behind is what Ghirardelli started to sell, to the tune of millions of pounds annually, and is now world famous for. As seen 9 August 2022.
